About Us
Preserving the Past. Honoring Legacies. Connecting Community.
The Friends of Rush Creek Cemetery is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and celebration of the historic Rush Creek Cemetery and the lives of those laid to rest there. Founded by a group of passionate volunteers, descendants, historians, and community members, our mission is to protect this sacred ground, ensure its stories are not forgotten, and foster public appreciation for its cultural and historical significance.
Our Mission
To preserve and maintain Rush Creek Cemetery with dignity and care, promote awareness of its historical value, and engage the community through education, volunteerism, and respectful stewardship.
Who We Are
We are neighbors, families, historians, and caretakers united by a shared respect for those who came before us. Many of us have deep generational ties to Rush Creek Cemetery, while others have simply come to appreciate its unique role in our region’s heritage. Together, we work to:
-
Restore and maintain grave markers, fences, and landscape
-
Document historical and genealogical information
-
Host community events, tours, and clean-up days
-
Educate the public about the cemetery’s historical importance
-
Protect the cemetery from neglect and development threats
Why It Matters
Rush Creek Cemetery is more than a resting place — it’s a record of the lives, struggles, and contributions of early residents who helped shape the community we live in today. Every headstone tells a story, and every story deserves to be remembered.
By preserving this sacred space, we not only honor those who came before us but also provide future generations with a deeper understanding of our shared past.
